Welcome Remarks – Charles Falzon, Dean FCAD

Charles has had a distinguished career in the entertainment industry and brings to RTA global experience in production,  brand development and  commerce.. An industry veteran in his home country of Canada, Falzon has managed media enterprises  in the UK, US, Japan, Latin America and Malta. His breadth of experience includes the production of award winning television series and features, distribution, marketing, publishing, as well as live events, theme parks and brand development.  Falzon’s creative work includes such properties as Thomas The Tank EngineGuinness World Records and Art Attack.  More recently Falzon’s credits include Harry and His Bucketful of DinosaursArtzookaExtreme Babysitting and a long list of made-for-TV movies.  He has won numerous awards including two Canadian Screen Awards for best children’s series.  Charles was founder and continues to act as co-chairman of CCI Entertainment, a leading Canadian entertainment company.  Previously he was President of Gullane Entertainment, a UK-based, publicly traded media company.  He was the founding chair of the Canadian Media Production Association and is vested in the Order of Malta. Charles, a graduate of RTA, has been an instructor at Ryerson for nearly twenty  years, with a specialty in media marketing and management.  His education also includes two post graduate degrees at University of Toronto in ethics, theology, and spirituality.  His academic interests include transmedia marketing and media ethics.

KeyNote Speaker – Tariq Fancy, Founder, Rumie

Tariq Fancy is the founder of Rumie, which today brings affordable digital education to remote, offline communities worldwide ranging from Indian villages to Syrian refugee camps.

Prior to founding Rumie in 2013, Tariq spent a long career in finance, starting as an investment banker in the Silicon Valley-based group that led the IPOs of Amazon, Google, and Cisco, and later at a New York Private Equity firm where he became the firm’s youngest partner. As an investor, he led the early investments that brought mobile phones into emerging markets as a “leapfrog” innovation over landlines. His career and work have been the subject of business school case studies by both Harvard and INSEAD.

Since being founded in 2013, Rumie now has projects in over twenty countries.

Head Facilitator, Eliane Tozman, Head of Design, National Innovation Team, IBM Canada


Eliane Tozman is the Head of Design for Innovation at IBM Canada Research and Development Centre. Eliane has over 18 years of experience working with product development at IBM. She has managed several global teams in the product space, transforming existing products to net new from ideation to overseeing the successful launch into the marketplace. Eliane has given talks, published papers and participated as a panel judge for industry conferences across Canada, the US and Europe.

Peter Miller is a Social Innovator, Strategy Advisor and Social Enterprise Coach. He is passionate about guiding those interested in starting or growing a business or social enterprise, through business and strategical planning, marketing, finance and business law.

Co-author of The Giving Back Economy, published by SelfCounsel Press. The Giving Back Economy is a book about doing well by doing good! Social enterprise and social entrepreneurship is a field that is just heating up. It is a business idea that has been fringe for a number of years, but that is growing more mainstream. Increasingly, the idea of social responsibility will be part of every business person’s agenda, especially as Millenials are now of an age to own and participate in business.  This book on social responsibility practices for business and nonprofit is written for a new social innovator trying to start a socially conscious organization or an existing business owner wanting to practice Corporate Social Responsibility Peter focuses on learning how to leverage social impact. All royalties go to GiveBack Fund of the United Church Foundation to support the creation of Community Innovation Hubs in spiritual institutions such as Mosques, Synagogues, Temples, Parishes, Churches. The pilot of this program has been a great success, as 18 “hubsters” who use the unused/underutilized space, attend/participate in workshops/roundtable discussions and coaching, use an e-learning platform, and the mentoring support through Peter’sT book is available through Amazon, Indigo, SelfCounsel Press.

Peter recently RE-retired. He took one day off and now is a volunteer in disaster management with Red Cross, a volunteer with Pan Am Games 2015, a mentor for Futurepreneurs and the Mentoring Partnership. Through his work with the Community Innovation Hub Peter continues to look for new hubs, new hubsters, new workshop facilitators/mentors/coaches.

Master of Awards Ceremonies Ian Campeau, DJ, Co-Founder of A Tribe Called Red & Indigenous Advocate

Ian Campeau, also known as DJ NDN, is a co-founder of the music group A Tribe Called Red (ATCR). Through a powerful combination of art and activism, he uses his notoriety to draw attention to issues of racism, gender based violence, stigmas of mental health, and other forms of oppression. He is Ojibwe, Anishinaabe from the Nipissing First Nation.
