Join like-minded thinkers and leaders for a two-day collaborative process on November 3rd & 4th, 2017 where you will work in teams to create new startups that apply sharing economy solutions to Ontario social challenges.
Teams will prototype and pitch their ideas and $10 000 in prize money will be awarded! Both individuals and pre-existing teams are welcome to join.
Spurred by recent advances in technology, the Sharing Economy is an emerging marketplace that enables individuals and groups to obtain and exchange services and goods which are otherwise under-utilized in innovative ways. New businesses and business models are popping up to serve the growing appetite of people who are discovering the benefits of sharing goods and services. While most of the well-known sharing economy applications so far have been aimed at facilitating private enterprise, it’s clear that this opportunity extends to organizations with social missions as well.
Imagine what could happen if we harnessed the power of the sharing economy to alleviate some of the biggest social challenges facing Ontario homes and communities by finding new and innovative ways of putting underutilized assets or services to work! On November 3rd and 4th, 2017 the Faculty of Communication and Design (FCAD) at Ryerson University invites you to rise to the challenge through ShareON Design Jam: Harnessing the Power of the Sharing Economy to Drive Social Innovation in Ontario.
Topic areas to be explored at the jam include:
- waste reduction in our environment
- affordable housing
- food security
- precarious work
- mental health (loneliness and isolation)
This exciting event is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the Ministry of Economic Development and Growth (MEDG). It will be facilitated by Eliane Tozman, Head of Design for Innovation, IBM Canada Research and Development Centre.
Participants will be invited to explore the following challenge question in one of the topic areas outlined above:
How might we harness the power of the sharing economy to solve social challenges in Ontario homes and communities?
The goal of the event is to emerge with new ideas for sharing economy applications that get at reducing or eliminating challenges in any of the topic areas.
At the end of the jam, teams will pitch their ideas to a distinguished panel of ShareON judges, and prizes will be awarded. Prizes include $6K for first place, $3K for second place and $1K for 3rd place.
